about us
OUR HISTORY
Don Simon Edirisinghe Founder

Our founder Don Simon Edirisinghe established Edirisinghe Brothers Limited – ‘Auto Court’ in the late 1940s. He was a brilliant entrepreneur and a self-learned automotive engineer. His decision to set up a workshop to handle the engineering needs of automobile users in Sri Lanka, when vehicles were still relatively few on the roads was truly visionary. He mission was to offer quality workshop services and from inception invested into the best European machinery of the highest standard like the SCHOU machine from Denmark shown from our archives as below.

The company has grown from handling a few engines a year to a workshop handling in excess of 20,000 engines per year. Our founder’s solid foundation and mission has made ‘Edirisinghe Brothers’ or better knows by Sri Lankans as ‘Auto Court’ a name synonymous with quality precision engineering. Many generations of vehicle owners have become satisfied customers of our company. Our founder started the company offering vehicle servicing (oil change, wash etc.,) as well as engine rebuilding services for passenger and commercial vehicles at the time. Even a petrol/diesel filling station was on the company site at inception.

In the last 30 years the company has increased exponentially its capacity to handle engine-rebuilding work with massive investments into machinery from Europe, U.S.A and U.K. This constant increase in workshop capacity has allowed us to offer an industry unique ‘SAME DAY SERVICE’ for workshop services thus allowing our customers who come from all parts of the country to complete their engine rebuilds in one day. Our investment into BOSCH diesel fuel pump test/calibration benches has allowed vehicle owners to have their complete engine rebuilt under one roof.

The company has also invested heavily into lathe, milling and shaping machinery in the last 30 years allowing us to handle fabrication and repairs to mechanical components and machinery like gear wheels, pulleys, propeller shafts, hydraulic shafts etc.,

We have partnered many overseas companies who have come to Sri Lanka for infrastructure development work. We were the lead mechanical workshop partner for engineering companies involved in the Victoria, Maduru Oya, Randenigala dam construction in the 1970 & 80s. We currently partner many overseas and local companies involved in port, road development, power generation and other post-war development projects in Sri Lanka.

The company is currently managed by Gamini Edirisinghe(Managing Director) and Chandra Edirisinghe (Director).
